What is nursing? What’s visible? What’s invisible?
IN/VISIBLE CARE originated as an interdisciplinary collaboration between photographer Patricia Kühfuss and students from Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts under the direction of Prof. Michael Wittland, Rebecca Hassan, and Prof. Nina Fleischmann. It has been further developed with Prof. Jonas Hänel and students from the Technical University of Dresden and the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences.
Starting with the question: What happens when a professional nursing perspective meets authentic photographs from the nursing profession? Does the space between professional experience and visual representation offer possibilities to make a complex topic like nursing more accessible? How do we deal constructively with invisibility?
The resulting traveling exhibition IN/VISIBLE CARE uses photography to reflect on these in/visibilities of care work. Patricia Kühfuss‘ images depict real nursing situations. Her images are accompanied by interview recordings of students from the nursing and healthcare fields, who describe what they see in the pictures—and what they think about based on their work experience, offering room for discussion and exchange.

IN/VISIBLE CARE ist als interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit der Fotografin Patricia Kühfuss mit Studierenden der Hochschule Hannover unter der Leitung von Prof. Michael Wittland, Rebecca Hassan und Prof. in Nina Fleischmann entstanden. Sie wurde mit Prof. Jonas Hänel und Studierenden der Technischen Universität Dresden und der Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences bis heute weiterentwickelt.
Ausgangspunkt war die Frage: Was passiert, wenn eine fachliche Pflegeperspektive auf authentische Fotografien aus dem Pflegeberuf trifft?
Liegt im Dazwischen von professioneller Erfahrung und visueller Repräsentation eine Möglichkeit, ein so komplexes Thema wie Pflege zugänglicher zu machen? Wie gehen wir konstruktiv mit Unsichtbarkeit um?
Die Wanderausstellung IN/VISIBLE CARE nutzt Fotografie, um über diese Un/Sichtbarkeiten der Pflegearbeit nachzudenken. Die Reportagefotos der Fotografin Patricia Kühfuss bilden reale Pflegesituationen ab. Ihre Bilder werden begleitet von Interviewaufnahmen von Studierenden aus dem Pflege- und Gesundheitsbereich, welche beschreiben, was sie auf den Bildern sehen — und woran sie aufgrund ihrer Arbeitserfahrung denken.
