The matter of fact

The Netherlands, 2021.

What’s the shape of trust? As a collective? As an individual?

Is conflict daily practice — or something to avoid at all cost?

How do power structures surface in a conflict?

And if power focusses on facts and the powerless on the relationship, where does this leave you?

The Matter Of Fact opens an intimate view on the Dutch seascape. The images play with the famous Dutch light and the constantly changing weather conditions that can be found on the shores of the Netherlands. The same shores are threatened by climate change and rising sea levels — much of the Dutch land is situated below sea level.

In the light of this unstable future, the images are a visual meditation on a key challenge when facing climate change: How do we deal with conflict? How can we live and work together for a common goal in spite of our different backgrounds and viewpoints?
