The tired institution

The doctor’s coat is strongly connected to the idea of medicine as an institution, associated with knowledge, authority and power. Confronted with that, it is easy to forget that this institution is upheld by people like you and me, no superhuman entities.
With privatization increasingly taking over medical care, profit-making becomes priority over the needs of staff and patients in the hospital. The current system is running on people going above and beyond what is sustainable to provide good care — the question is for how long.
